How to Create an Event that Helps Support Disaster Relief

How to Create an Event that Helps Support Disaster Relief

When a community comes together following a disaster, its collective power is staggering. No matter how strong a community is, however, a solid foundation is needed. If you want to create a memorable, successful disaster relief event, check out our tips below.

Use Social Media to Spread Awareness

Promote your event on social media. Then, encourage your audience to share the relief event’s links. The more exposure, the better. Try to make a “viral” event, if possible. Disaster relief events experience incredible visibility when they’re prompted online.

Create a Fundraising Event

Even if you’re creating a branded disaster relief event, there’s no reason not to include an internal fundraising event. Give your event goers a way to help others directly. Create a direct link between the cause and the community.

Contact Local Artists

Next, you should contact your area’s artists. Create an expo within the event. Artists are fantastic social supporters, and their music, paintings, movies and mission statements are vital event components. By enlisting the help of artists, you’ll be able to create an environment of support while garnering like-minded support.

Partner Up

Before launching a disaster relief event, connect with local businesses. Organizations and businesses take pride in their community. They’ll invest in its recovery. If the disaster is abroad, contact larger businesses to embrace a holistic support approach.

Create a Live Update Feed

Whether you’re using Facebook, Twitter or Snapchat, you should utilize real-time news feeds. Disaster relief events thrive in real-time news environments. Plus, real-time feeds will give your event’s patrons the visibility they deserve. Consumers love getting involved, and they love being encouraged via highly visible media.

Hand Out T-Shirts

T-shirts are awesome disaster relief event hand-outs. Before investing in expensive knick-knacks, consider going cheap. Relief shirts let event goers spread social awareness. They give wearers a chance to directly promote a cause. T-shirts are affordable, and a variety of prints are available.

Decide on the Profit Direction

Before even drafting an event, you should know where your profits will go. Disasters can create millions of dollars in expenses—sometimes, billions. Create a disaster relief event with a high money-gain benchmark in mind. Then, make sure you can manufacture your event without cutting into the pocketbook too much. Let event goers know where their money is going. Give them solid information about their direct assistance.

Connect with Youth Groups and Sports Administrations

Because disaster relief events work well on the local level, they tend to work well when local youth groups and sports administrations are onboard. Contact any nearby entities. Let them know about your event. Then, create special attendance perks for the community’s sports teams, groups and impactors. You’ll garner more fundraising money. You’ll also spread awareness to families, schools and local influence groups.

Stay on Target

At every turn, you should make sure your business event is hitting the mark. Don’t get carried away, and don’t shift focus to your brand. The disaster, itself, needs to remain in focus. Talk to your community’s members, and make sure they’re well-connected after the event.

When Birds in the Backyard Turn into Art

getty-max-getty-14078-584774014.jpg

What could be better than a purist approach to event marketing art?  This year’s YoungArts Foundation Gala experienced a slew of action-paced, eloquent and fascinating displays.  The event’s figurehead, highlighted by the Max Mara logo, was incredibly flexible. That said, the Italian luxury brand was only the show’s opening act. Dubbed the 2017 YoungArts Backyard Ball, the Gala far exceeded other, run-of-the-mill charity promotions.

The Backyard Ball

On January 14, 2017, the National YoungArts Foundation posted up in Miami, delivering its annual extravaganza to support the nation’s future artists. While recognizing the year’s talent, the Gala assisted this year’s 691-bodied audience of YoungArts Winners. The event supplied explorative music, awesome additions and amazing contributions to art, including jazz pianist Jason Moran, choreographer Jessica Lang and Max Mara’s north American retailer, Maria Giulia Maramotti.

The Birds

Among the artistic display showcases was an interesting assortment of origami birds. The event’s origami theme, incredibly varied, included many nods to the ancient arts of paper folding—such as abstract bird shapes. The stage’s backdrop was lit, the birds were folded and a dulcet purple framed the entire scene.

The Gala’s graphic cover design reflected this display, revealing different handcrafted art designs, origami’s geometric nature and a variety of event inclusions. Meanwhile, the event’s ceiling origami installation captured nature with hundreds of suspended paper butterflies. All around, floating origami animals impacted the space.

Success and the Prevalence of Art

The evening raised over $1.5 million to support YoungArts establishments, initiatives and programs in Miami, Los Angeles, New York and Washington D.C. The event’s aspiring artists—along with those abroad—were given extraordinary, life-changing opportunities to connect with their field’s leading impactors. The presence of public-presented work, a nod to tradition and the collaboration of different disciplines, together, made the Backyard Ball stand apart.

The event’s guests, of course, applauded the winners of the National YoungArts Week—which occurred between January 8 and 15. In the world of art, a little experiential marketing goes a long way. Origami birds, the presentation’s frame—in a sense—highlighted the gala's freedom, creativity and curiosity. Sometimes, event displays needn’t be expensive. Sometimes, trending, fun and unique event inclusions can be as pure as the message they’re relaying. In the world of charity promotion, event marketers have a lot of options. The National YoungArts Week presented a unique opportunity, too, which was categorized by a celebration of all things art. Minimalism still works, and events are still using it as an effective presentation too.

Jackson-Health-Foundation-25.jpg

We at Soho Studios in Miami are proud to announce the upcoming Jackson Health Foundation's Golden Angels 25th Birthday Bash on January 21, 2017! It celebrates 25 years of the Foundation's giving, which supports a variety of health-related causes within the Jackson Health System. This event starts at 7 P.M. and is being presented by the Golden Angels, a group dedicated to fundraising for the Jackson Health Foundation. This event is also known as the Golden Angels Gala. The gala is a fundraiser as well as a festive party, dinner, and evening of entertainment. Suggested ticket prices start at $1,000, which gives the donor a Benefactor Seat. Individual tickets go up to $60,000, which gives a seat at the Golden Angel Pledge/Gala Tables. Tables for 10 are also available for larger donations. The Jackson Health Foundation also has a web page for those who wish to give smaller gifts toward specific Birthday Bash goals without attending the gala.

For those who attend, there is an exciting array of activities that will go on. Dancing is on the agenda, along with dinner and choice of drinks. Every year's event has a different theme to surprise attendees, and you can count on excellent entertainment and multiple bars. One of the highlights is always the recognition of the Foundation's largest donors, who will appear in their finest fashions. This makes this event one of the biggest in the area's social scene.

Every year, there is a different form of memorable entertainment offered. There have been variety shows, carnival acts, and other exciting performances. This year's theme is Miracles Made Daily, but the Foundation is keeping mum about the specifics of the accompanying performances and sets that will be present. You'll just have to attend and see what they've set up for you!

About the Jackson Health Foundation

The Jackson Health Foundation, or JHF, works to raise funds to cover shortfalls in the Jackson Health System's budget left after taxpayer funding and grants have been exhausted. This allows the System to continue to provide its top-notch medical care along with the extras that make patients more comfortable here than they otherwise would be.

What to Expect from Citi at Taste of the Nations

Hello June!  With the Taste of the Nation coming to Miami in less the two weeks,  we are hearing how the tour started out with a bang when recently hosted in New York City. Citi, one of the proud sponsors of the event, set up shop at this charitable event in April 2016 and offered amazing social experiences to its card carrying members who were lucky enough to have private passes. The bank then encouraged those who engaged in the event to take to social media to share their experiences.

The Appetizers

Citi's appetizers were mouthwatering but the way they were presented was perhaps even more noteworthy. The appetizer platters were suspended from helium balloons right near the check-in counter to entice people to want to come in and have a taste. Other white balloons were placed nearby and these turned blue as people got on their social media accounts to tell people about Citi's great food.

The Drinks

Well known mixologist Eamon Rocky served up some amazing Avion tequila "Tigritas" as guests enjoyed relaxing in the lounge. As guests enjoyed their drinks, they were able to charge their cell phones, check out the 60 inch touch screen display to find out more about Citi's dining platforms and talk to brand ambassadors. At the photo booth inside the space, guests were once again encouraged to take to social media to share photos of the event as the number of meals and amount of money donated to charity was dependent on social activity of those who participated in the event.

Other Goodies

Citi set up a unique social vending machine as part of the event. Guests who posted to their social media accounts while at the machine received Citi-branded goodies such as oven mitts, wine stoppers, wine pourers, aprons and a USB loaded with recipes for tasty treats.

Get in on the Action

Taste of the Nations is coming back to Miami on June 17, 2016 and we here at SOHO Studios are hosting the event!  It will offer tasty treats, exquisite beverages and an afterparty. The event is also being hosted by Emmy nominated weekend anchor Marybel Rodriguez and Froggy from Elvis Duran and the Morning Show. For now, we and Citi are keeping its Taste of the Nation plans to ourself; however, fans can see from Citi's April offerings that the company is sure to provide a night out Miami Style that you simply won't want to miss!

Check out South Florida's Taste of the Nation on Facebook and our Facebook page  for more photos and details of the event.
